White label skin care VS Private label skin care, who wins?

Whether you're a colossus of the world of cosmetics or a small beginner start-up, sooner or later you’ll feel the need to ask yourself this existential question: white label or private label? Oh yeah. Be careful: although both terms indicate products branded by third parties, there are substantial differences between them that you should definitely not underestimate. Let’s clear this out and get rid of all doubts!

“To be or not to be, that is the question”, said Hamlet. Well, albeit with much less passion, your skin care line will also have to face this existential doubt at some point. To be or not to be a private label product? What about white label?

Despair not! We of HSA can clear your doubts and show you the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two choices.

First things first, though: let's explain exactly what we’re talking about.

White label skin care

A white label product is a generic product made by a manufacturer with the purpose of being sold by different retailers. Each retailer can sell the product by adding its own name and brand to it, but can’t interfere in its making.

Private label skin care

On the other hand, a private label product is made by a manufacturer with the goal of being sold only and exclusively by a single retailer, which can therefore interfere and request modifications and evaluations regarding the product and its packaging. A level of freedom that white label product retailers can’t afford.

Now that the difference between the two options is clear, let’s make a concrete assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two.

Advantages and disadvantages of white label skin care

A white label product is distributed to different sellers - exactly the same product. With this method, the same generic face cream is sold to 10 different sellers. These sellers can then add their brand to the product and sell it as if it were theirs.

The result is that 10 different sellers will flood the market with the same face cream under 10 different names.

The advantage of this choice is the rapidity with which a white label product is launched in the market. On the other hand, the disadvantage is you can’t stand out from your competitors.

As you can’t count on your product to stand out in the market, if you choose the road of a white label product you must make a crazy effort to make your brand stand out.

Advantages and disadvantages of private label skin care

A private label product can be modified by the reference seller, to better meet their sales and marketing needs. This means that, using that same example above, that of a face cream, when produced in that way, there’s only one face cream available in the market.

This type of choice is less smart from the point of view of time, as planning for a private label product obviously takes longer. But is this truly a disadvantage?

When you choose to take the private label road, your skin care product is one of a kind and can communicate the identity of your brand much better. Not to mention a tailor-made marketing strategy that allows you to choose your position in the market.

Our opinion may be biased, but to us the right choice is a no-brainer. Tell us: how often do things made in a hurry yield great results? Never, since we last checked.

Doing things well takes time and effort. We of HSA, the perfect partners to create private label skin care products, know this better than anyone else.

Now, after this close scrutiny, are you really sure you don't know which is the best choice for you?
