Global hair care trends in two different beauty worlds

Scritto da HSA Cosmetics | 26-lug-2019 10.34.11

When in Rome, do as the Romans do, including the way you take care of your hair. Oh, wait. Hair care trends in different countries often vary a lot because of physical, cultural and stylistic diversity.

We can define perhaps two large areas of influence that intersect and influence each other: Western and Asian. When we study the hair care trends of these two parts of the world, we can have a general idea of the current year’s trends.

Let’s have a look together.

South Korean and Eastern hair care trends

In the country where ultra-straight hair abounds, the goal is to have long, silky hair, always. In the Far East, though, beauty needs its own time: their approach is multi-step, a veritable beauty ritual with a holiness to it that reminds us of the ancient Japanese tea ceremony.

Very popular in South Korea, hair care routine includes at least four steps. The first step focuses on the scalp, using a purifying shampoo to be massaged slowly and for a long time with circular movements.

Then comes deep conditioning: step after step, hair is deeply hydrated by nourishing shampoo, conditioner and masks. The hair care routine also includes sleeping on it. This is where fabric hair masks - sleeping masks - enter the stage, to embrace your hair as you sleep, just like you hug your favorite teddy bear.

For those in need of an extra boost, go ahead and take some hair supplements.

USA and Western hair care trends

In the Western world focus has shifted not exactly to a meticulous and long hair care routine, but towards a popular request for natural ingredients that respect animals and the environment.

The request was welcomed with enthusiasm, to the point that most companies have begun launching entire lines of products containing ingredients inspired by nature and the benefits of plants and flowers. Some brands even went packaging free, including the increasingly popular solid shampoos and their loyal sidekicks, solid conditioners.

Amongst organic hair care products, such as conditioner, shampoo, serum, oils and styling products, conditioners have the biggest slice of the global market of organic hair care, thanks to its wide use by most of the public. Organic oils for hair care are expected to grow exponentially in the short future. In general, the demand for organic hair care products in Western Europe is likely to increase a lot in the upcoming years.

A point in common: hair wellbeing

One approach focuses on the concepts of fast and green, the other one on zen: apparently two opposing worlds that in fact hide a shared desire: hair wellbeing above all.

Creams, serums and masks are at the service of hair that needs care and attention. Hair care routine embraces the habits of skin care to make all hair types shine with health. The West shares the same desire for meticulous hair care, but with other rhythms and lifestyles.
