Customized skincare products: let’s get personal!
One size fits all doesn’t really fit anybody in the skin care world. Every skin type is different, with different needs and different goals, that require different cares. Which is why customized skincare products are on the rise, and most definitely going to stay.
Now more than ever, there is a shared common belief in the value of everyone’s diversity. Slowly but surely, consumers and brands are evolving towards a more accepted idea that we’re all different, and THAT’S OK!
Which is why it’s so important to recognize that, since our whole lives are personalized to our own needs, skincare shouldn’t be any less.
Why are customized skincare products so trending?
If you think about it, it’s actually pretty simple: if you’re looking to have the perfect-fitting dress, you head to a tailor. Am I right?
Consumers are not willing to compromise on mass produced skincare products that only answer to one or two of their problems anymore. And the little time they have to focus on the health of their skin, they want to make it count.
So, what can we do about it? Get more personal with customized skincare products!
After all, there’s a certain level of comfort that comes from knowing that a skincare product has been made specifically for you. It builds up a certain level of trust, especially if you see results.
So, making that extra effort to meet the single customer’s needs is paid off by the fact that, if you make them happy with a product that works for them, they’ll always come back to you.
Not only that: they will talk about you to as many people as they can. And believe it or not, word of mouth is still one of the strongest, most powerful ways to get people to do something.
How to implement customized skincare products
We live in a day and age where technology pretty much makes anything possible. Thank you genius minds from Silicon Valley, we see you!
So, you can use technology to get “inside consumers’ minds” (or at least their phones) and get to know them better. In order to do that, there are 3 things that you can do:
1. Develop intuitive mobile apps
With a little help (or should we say A LOT?) from technological experts, you can develop an app that your consumers can download and fill with information about their skin. They can take close-up pictures of their face and the algorithm will figure out their skin issues and create the best formula for them.
That way, you can easily get to know them and they will be satisfied with a tool that works, nice and smooth.
2. Build fun online questionnaires
You can always rely on a good old-fashioned questionnaire. You’d be surprised by how effective it can be, if you manage to ask the right questions.
It needs to be specific, an in-depth dive into your consumers’ skincare needs; but not too lengthy: that’ll bore them to death.
It needs to be fun, but not superficial: that’ll make them think that you’re not taking this seriously.
And you should also consider asking questions regarding lifestyle: how many times a week they work out, how does their diet look like and if they live in a city or a rural area. Those things can very much affect skin’s health.
3. Set up face-to-face IRL interviews with a professional
I know this one is a little bit of a stretch but, if you could somehow work it out, it would be very cool to assist your consumers with face-to-face IRL interviews with a professional. The human component would make them feel even more cared for and recognized for who they are.
